In 2019, I made a resolution to read 40 books. I accomplished the resolution and was quite proud of myself. In hindsight, I do not recall how I chose the 40 books or my favorite quotes or characters. I keep re-visiting the Goodreads list and have little to no takeaways from my books. It makes me wonder, do quantitative goals shrink the experience?
After 2019, I did not make quantitative resolutions. I focused on large goals and promises to follow through.
In 2022 I made two promises to myself:
Lead a healthy life. I discovered my definition of healthy living and built routines to support it. This meant eating well, reading, and spending time with loved ones.
Lead an enriching professional life. I enjoy working in the education tech space and building learning products. I created a plan to upskill which included a list of courses, books, and networking efforts. It was a list, not a checklist.
Promises are a great way to start a new chapter. Does that mean quantitative goals are bad? No, it depends on what works for you. I committed to making progress but had no hourly or weekly goal for learning. Quantitative goals were counterproductive for me.
In 2022, I launched Unlearning Labs. It was a blog, a newsletter, and a playground to experiment with unlearning. I love the learning landscape and there is so much to explore.
For the last year, Unlearning Labs was a pilot. I experimented with writing style, research versus anecdotal articles, and more. My articles received positive feedback and I am grateful to you.
I took a break over the last two weeks to ponder upon the next phase of Unlearning Labs. The landscape is limitless but there are three directions I am the most excited about for 2023:
Learning Circles: We are launching Learning Circles. Learning Circles events will focus on learning lessons, challenges, and actionable advice. Learning is key to everything we do. Many events are industry and profession specific. I want to focus on learning and how to learn better.
Learning Library: Learning journeys should be trackable. We are launching a digital Learning Library. The library will include learning templates, guides, and resources with actionable takeaways.
Guest Posts: The lens of learning is subjective. In November, we spoke with Pratik Mungre about how to learn like a chef. We will continue inviting guests to write and share their knowledge.
How can you help me?
As a member of the Unlearning Labs community, you can help me in three ways:
Spread the word: If you enjoy my articles, share them with your network. The goal is to grow the community and connect with like-minded folks who love the world of learning.
Write for Unlearning Labs: If you love writing and bring a unique perspective, I’d love for you to write a guest blog. Please reach out and let’s get to writing! Or, if you would like me to write about learning for your project, I’d love to explore it further. You can find me on LinkedIn, Twitter or respond to this newsletter and I will get back to you.
Collaborate on projects: 2023 will bring in new projects: Learning circles, library, and much more! If you would like to collaborate, I'd love to have you on board.
Thank you for a wonderful 2022 and let's get back to unlearning, learning, and relearning!
